All Things Stucco

What is Stucco?

  • Traditionally made of cement, lime and stone, stucco is a product placed on the exterior part of your home that can change the style of the home and be an alternative to siding. Customization is endless when it comes to Stucco. The variety of textures and colors is endless.

Stucco vs. Siding

  • Stucco and siding are both popular exterior finishes for homes. Stucco is typically more expensive than siding but can provide better insulation and a more classic look. Siding is generally made from wood or vinyl. It comes in many different colors and styles including shingles, clapboard, board-and-batten etc. If you live in an area that would require your home to have more insulation, stucco would be ideal. If there is little need for insulation, siding might be all you need.

 Stucco Maintenance

  • Stucco should be regularly inspected for cracks and other damage like moisture and water intrusion. At least every few years. If any damage is found, it should be repaired as soon as possible. Some minor repairs of stucco can be done by yourself such as spider cracking. If you notice larger cracks, any missing pieces or heavy staining, consider a stucco remediation pro.  Also consider using a pressure washer every few years to eliminate dirt and debris that have accumulated over time. Be careful! It is important not to damage the stucco while cleaning it because this could lead to cracks or other problems later on down the line. Don’t pressure wash if cracks already exist.
