We hired Jonathan for a huge double project that included a simultaneous complete master bathroom overhaul and a basement finishing. We wanted some pretty specific things including a two-person natural stone steam shower in the bathroom and a hidden room with secret bookshelf doors in the basement office. Jonathan and his project manager, Bill, were totally up for the task and 100% professional. They worked with us every step of the way, navigated the inevitable obstacles and pitfalls with transparency and accountability, and made sure every detail was done to our liking. It was a marathon, but in the end, we got a perfect score on our inspections and we couldn’t be happier with the results. I would trust them with any future projects and intend to recommend them to anyone needing a professional for a project, large or small.

Home Improvement Express remodeled my family room to remove an alcove above a fireplace to make an accent wall and mounted the TV.
From beginning to end they handled the job with professionalism and pride, the contractor treated this like it was his own home. I appreciated how they worked with me on figuring out the wiring and getting everything placed just right. I also appreciated how he laid down protective floor covering and put up a plastic wall to control the dust as much as possible.

I had a custom stained glass front door installed by Jack. He accurately measured for hinges and unique door knob. His work was meticulous. The door with a full length peacock was then sanded and wood stained by Chris. Our one shot to correctly hang the door was a complete success! I trusted their 50 years of experience combined. The quick version: Jonathan and his team are the professionals you hope you're getting when you sign a contract. They are communicative, timely and trustworthy, and I have no reservations recommending them.

The details: I got four bids for an unusual remodel; I wanted to convert a heated shop and craft room into an accessible apartment for my mother after she broke her hip. Jonathan’s bid wasn’t the cheapest one, but it wasn’t far off and was more than reasonable given the value and quality of the results.

It couldn’t have been an easy task to draw up an estimate; there were a lot of unusual components, like adding a new septic line through a cement shop floor, adding a 4’ wide exterior door to accommodate things we might need down the road (lifts, EMS, etc), and a leveled zero-clearance walk-in shower in an existing room that was sloped per garage permit specifications. Despite that, the end result is remarkable, and we ended up almost exactly on budget and schedule.

Jonathan has the perfect temperament for a contractor. He is communicative, unflappable, friendly and professional. He was genuinely respectful of my input, and honest when there were obstacles. His team earned my trust to the extent that I never once worried about the people who had access to my house. As with any large project, there were hiccups, but they were addressed promptly and honestly. His creative problem-solving shone through in such circumstances. In fact, any time Jonathan felt something was not done to his standards, he brought it to my attention and corrected it, usually before I noticed.

Jonathan’s experience with accessible living spaces was evident in the care he took with details, for example, that outlets would be in convenient places for someone in a wheelchair, and that small, grippy tile was used in the shower to make it both safe and accessible. He also invested time up front to figure out what my priorities were and what functions the space needed to serve.

Lastly, I want to say that I think this team can be recommended to nearly anyone. On most things, I told him what I wanted the result to be and trusted his judgement with the ‘how’. For a few things, my mom had very specific requests, which he handled with aplomb. At one point, my mom’s health required all of my attention, and I asked if he could provide materials I had agreed to provide in the contract; he took that burden off my plate without batting an eyelash. As such, I’m pretty sure any personality or management style will find that Jonathan is easy to work with, and the quality of the end result speaks to his ability to handle whatever the homeowner brings to the table.

All this to say, I strongly recommend contacting ADBC/HIE for your project. Once you get this team in the door, they will do the hard work of earning your business.

Johnathan was great. When Others didn't responded to my inquiry or were to busy to do the work Johnathan was happy to come help me as soon as I needed. When someone else said they could be here in 2 months, Johnathan got here in 2 days and got all of the work I needed done in 2 hours. Fantastic!

We had two new very difficult exterior doors hung- one most people would’ve given up on as the opening is off -along with two storm doors, various electrical work, hardware, new heavy shutters hung on a second floor window, along with other items.

We needed a follow visit for some very small adjustments months later and Jon took care of it quickly and at no cost. Doing the “right thing” is definitely their model.
