In 1990, Dave joined 50,000-watt powerhouse KOA, the five-decade radio station of the Broncos. Originally, Dave handled color commentary for the games from 1990 to 1995. In 1996, he did color commentary for home games and play-by-play for road games. He then moved into his now customary play-by-play chair in 1997, becoming known as “the voice of the Broncos.”
The 2022 football season marked Dave's 32nd year in the KOA broadcast booth and his 25th year as the play-by-play announcer for Broncos games. And, in 2019, Dave and KOA announced an agreement that will continue to keep Dave in his play-by-play role for the Broncos for another 10 years.
Dave’s play-by-play broadcasting career makes him quite unique. Many ex-players have had jobs as color commentators, but he is one of just three, along with Jimmy Cefalo in Miami and Steve Raible in Seattle, who have ascended to the play-by-play chair for their respective broadcast teams.
Listen to Dave at 3pm on the Sports Zoo.
