Assessing Damage to Your Foundation

It is important to know that if your home is suffering from foundation damage and structural problems you will have a very difficult time selling the home no matter what the market is doing. Many times it costs less to repair the structural problems than the loss you will have on the sale of the home.

Most foundation problems are due to water and poor drainage. It is important to maintain good drainage around your home's foundation.

Soils engineers recommend one foot of fall from the home's foundation in the first ten feet or a minimum of six inches in five feet. Once you achieve this, it is important to not let the water stand or pool in those areas. Just by maintaining your drainage, you may prevent serious foundation damage in the future.
