Fixing Sneaky Leaks

A home with four leaky faucets could waste up to 16,000 gallons of water a year, according to the United States Geological Survey.

To check for water leaks, shut off the water supply to sinks, toilets and appliances and locate your meter box. The meter has a “leak indicator,” a red or black triangular disc that spins if you have a leak. If the actual meter hand is turning, you have a leak elsewhere and should close the main shut-off valve.
